Wormwood

WormwoodThree months back, I took BJ Guyer’s Foam carving class at Stan Winston.  At the same time they release on-demand his How to build an Arm-Rod Puppet class.  This is a quick result based on this class.

Using BJ’s class he provides patterns for hand, skull, body, and mouth plate. He walks through putting all this together.

I really liked the pocket technique he showed for removable arm rods, and the mouth plate and poly foam mouth corners really make a movable and expressive mouth.  This is the first time I saw using cord or rope for attaching hands to the body and making it easy for costume changes.

In addition to all of that Wormwood has a carved foam tongue (I had to use something from the foam carving class). His mouth is lined with ultrasuede, after seeing my other puppets mouths pill. His mouth is glued down with contact cement instead of sewing or hot glue. Using the contact cement was great for control and staying sticky, but not set longer.

To quickly finish him, he is borrowing a whatnot jacket and eyes. His glasses are from a Mr. Peabody DVD.
